I have only just discovered, after sitting my laptop on a varnished side table for several months, that it gets hot enough to melt said varnish and damage the wood underneath. This side table is one of a set that belonged to my grandparents. I now feel like a terrible person. At least now I know to put a piece of cardboard underneath. *sigh*
